Robert Cook, OFM CONV.

The conferences contained within this volume span nearly twenty years in the life of Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe. The bulk of these talks, however, date from two periods and locations. Saint Maximilian gave the first group of conferences in 1933 during the early days of the "Garden of the Immaculate" (Mugenzai no Sono) in Nagasaki, Japan. The second group dates from 1936-37. Saint Maximilian delivered these talks at Niepokalanow as the ominous signs of global conflict grew in intensity.

The conferences are addressed to the friars of these two friaries. In Niepokalanow, the conferences could last up to an hour, although the typical duration was thirty minutes. When he was home, Saint Maximilian often delivered two conferences a day. However, his health would sometimes prevent him from meeting this rigorous schedule. The conferences were quite informal and involved a great deal of question and answer dialogue. Typically, 50-60 friars would attend the conferences. At times, they occurred in the chapel. At other times, Saint Maximilian spoke in a simple room, adorned only with a picture of his beloved Immaculata. Often, he spoke while seated on the floor with the friars around him.

Texts of these talks do not exist. The conferences which follow are transcriptions made by the friars in attendance. The texts bear the signatures of several different friars who acted as recorders. Often, the note-taking friars hid behind another friar so as to avoid notice because, in his humility, Saint Maximilian did not believe his words to be worthy of saving. The texts were then translated from Polish into English, and have been edited for ease of reading.

It is a Marytown Press book.
["Marytown Press Books","Maximilian Kolbe","Subject_Saint Specific","Subject_St. Maximilian Kolbe","Type_Books
[2961270593
"option1":"Default Title", "option2":null, "option3":null
["Default Title
["//marytowngiftshop.com/cdn/shop/products/all_for_the_immaculata.jpg?v=1611863490","//marytowngiftshop.com/cdn/shop/products/back_all_for_the_immaculata.jpg?v=1611863524
//marytowngiftshop.com/cdn/shop/products/all_for_the_immaculata.jpg?v=1611863490
Title
/products/all-for-the-immaculata" }

His life’s work cut short at age 47, St. Kolbe nonetheless left behind an impressive body of writings. In the 1950s the English-speaking world first began reading bits and pieces of those writings translated from the original Polish, Italian and Latin.
